Description

The Minolta XD7 (marketed as the XD-11 in North America and XD in Japan) is a flagship 35mm manual-focus SLR film camera introduced in 1977. Jointly engineered with Leica, it holds a historic place as the world's first SLR body to feature dual multi-mode automatic exposure, offering both Aperture Priority (A) and Shutter Priority (S) modes alongside full Manual (M) operation. This desirable black-finish variant features an electronically controlled Seiko vertical metal focal-plane shutter (1 s to 1/1000 s plus Bulb and mechanical 1/100 s X-sync), exceptionally bright optical viewfinder, depth-of-field preview lever, self-timer, exposure compensation (-2 to +2 EV), and eyepiece shutter cap.

Fitted with a sharp Minolta MD 50mm f/2 standard prime lens featuring a 49mm filter thread and serial number 1615141. Native to the Minolta SR / MC / MD bayonet system and easily adapted to modern mirrorless digital camera bodies (Sony E, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, Canon RF). Body serial number 255276. Powered by two standard LR44 / SR44 button cell batteries. Complete with front Minolta lens cap and triangular strap lugs with protective leatherette guards.

Condition

Overall Condition: Excellent

The black painted finish is in exceptionally clean condition with light cosmetic handling marks along edges. The textured leatherette body covering is complete, tight, and fully intact without shrinkage. Viewfinder and mirror box are clear, and the internal film chamber and metal shutter curtains are unblemished. Battery chamber and tripod thread are clean. Mechanically and electronically fully working: shutter fires accurately across all speeds, exposure meter responds properly to light changes, film advance lever winds smoothly, and self-timer functions correctly. Lens optics are clear, fungus-free, and haze-free with light internal dust. Focus ring turns smoothly, aperture ring clicks sharply, and aperture blades are oil-free and snappy. Body serial no. 255276; lens serial no. 1615141. Fully tested and working.

Collector's Notes

The black-finish Minolta XD7 is widely considered one of the absolute peaks of 1970s Japanese SLR camera design. Jointly developed alongside the chassis that formed the Leica R4, the XD7 is renowned for its whisper-quiet shutter dampening, soft-touch release, and exceptionally bright viewfinder. Complete black-finish kits with clean leatherette, fully operational metering, and a clean Minolta MD 50mm prime are highly sought after by collectors and film shooters.
