The Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 MMJ is a highly regarded, compact manual-focus zoom lens crafted for Contax and Yashica (C/Y) mount 35mm film SLRs. Engineered with Zeiss's famous T* multi-layer anti-reflective coating, it delivers outstanding contrast, color saturation, and flare resistance across the entire zoom range. This MMJ (MM Japan) variant allows shutter-priority and program auto-exposure modes when paired with compatible Contax camera bodies. Featuring a close-focus Macro setting at the 70mm focal length, smooth diamond-pattern rubber control rings, and a physical aperture ring with a green f/22 MM marking. Easily adapted to modern mirrorless systems including Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, and Nikon Z. Complete with its original blue Contax factory packaging box, front lens cap, and rear mount cap.

Optics are fungus and haze free with possible minor dust. The metal lens barrel finish is in clean cosmetic condition with crisp white/green barrel lettering, legible depth-of-field markings, and intact diamond-textured rubber focus and zoom grip rings. Metal C/Y bayonet mount and aperture couplings are clean and scratch-free. Focus ring turns smoothly across the range, zoom mechanism action is precise, macro switch engages properly, and aperture blades are oil-free and snappy. Serial number 8450658.
