Description
The Jupiter-8 50mm f/2 is a Soviet-era rangefinder lens in M39 Leica Thread Mount, produced from the 1950s to the 1980s. It’s a direct copy of the Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f/2, known for its smooth rendering, gentle contrast, and classic character. Compact and lightweight, it’s ideal for portraits, street photography, and vintage digital adaptation. This example is optically clean with one minor internal fibre visible under inspection—does not affect image quality.
Condition
- Optics: Clear glass with no haze, fungus or scratches
- Internal: One fine fibre/hair visible – does not affect performance
- Body: Light cosmetic wear consistent with age
- Aperture blades: Snappy and oil-free
- Focus ring: Smooth and well-damped
- Mount: M39 LTM – clean and secure
Included
- Jupiter-8 50mm f/2 lens (M39 mount)
- Front and rear lens caps
Collector’s Notes
The Jupiter-8 is a classic Soviet lens with a Sonnar-derived optical formula (6 elements in 3 groups). It was standard on Zorki and FED rangefinders and remains popular for adapting to digital mirrorless systems. This M39 version is compatible with Leica screw-mount cameras and adapters. The internal fibre is a common cosmetic quirk in vintage lenses and has no impact on image quality.
