Description

The Kodak Medalist II is a legendary 6×9 medium format rangefinder camera, introduced in 1947 as an upgrade to the original Medalist I. Designed by Walter Dorwin Teague, it features a rugged, tank-like build and was widely used by the U.S. military during WWII and beyond, prized for its durability and exceptional image quality.

It’s fitted with a Kodak Ektar 100mm f/3.5 lens, a five-element design renowned for its sharpness and contrast. The lens is fixed and collapses into the body via a helicoid mount. The Medalist II added flash sync capability, replacing the self-timer and fine-focus knob of the earlier model. It uses 620 roll film, producing eight 6×9cm exposures per roll, and can be adapted to accept 120 film.

The camera features a split-image rangefinder, parallax-corrected viewfinder, and a leaf shutter built into the lens, offering speeds from 1/400s to 1s + Bulb. Its unique dual-hinged film back allows for accessory ground glass backs and sheet film use.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition. Lens optics clean — no haze, fungus, or scratches. Shutter accurate across all speeds. Rangefinder aligned and bright. Collapsing mechanism smooth. Minor cosmetic wear consistent with age.
