The Nikon AI-S Nikkor 28mm f/3.5 is a rare and compact manual focus wide-angle prime lens built for Nikon 35mm F-mount SLR cameras. Produced during the transition to the AI-S standard, it features the designated rear mount focal indexing scoop for precision linear aperture control with shutter-priority and program auto-exposure bodies (such as the Nikon FA, FG, and F-301). Built with a 6-element in 6-group optical formula that offers exceptional edge-to-edge resolution, flat-field distortion correction, and high contrast. Features a rubberized diamond grip focus ring, silver chrome accent ring, orange minimum aperture ADR indicator, metering prong ("rabbit ears"), and standard 52mm front filter thread. Compatible across classic film bodies and modern Nikon DSLRs with an AI metering coupling lever. Serial number 2127281. Complete with front snap-on lens cap and rear push-on mount cap.

Overall Condition: Excellent

Cosmetically in very clean, well-preserved condition with minimal light handling wear on the black metal lens barrel. Glass elements are exceptionally clear and bright with vibrant multi-coatings. Free from haze, fungus, element separation, or deep scratches. Rubber focus grip rotates smoothly and uniformly throughout the focus range. Aperture ring rotates crisply with distinct detents down to f/22, and seven-blade diaphragm is dry, clean, and snappy. Rear mount exhibits the genuine milled AI-S indexing notch. Serial number 2127281. Fully tested and working.

The AI-S variant of the 28mm f/3.5 Nikkor is significantly harder to find than its earlier AI predecessor, as it was produced in relatively small numbers before Nikon replaced the f/3.5 speed entirely with the 28mm f/2.8 AI-S.
