Description
The Rolleiflex 2.8A is the first in the legendary 2.8 series, introduced circa 1950 by Franke & Heidecke. This early twin-lens reflex (TLR) camera features the rare Zeiss Tessar 80mm f/2.8 taking lens — either the Carl Zeiss Jena or the superior Zeiss Opton variant — paired with a Heidoscop viewing lens. Known for its elegant design and mechanical precision, the 2.8A is a sought-after collector’s piece and a capable shooter for medium format enthusiasts.
This model uses Bay II filter mounts, though the outer bayonet is unique to the 2.8A, making original lens hoods rare. Compatible with 120 roll film, it delivers 6×6cm negatives with classic Tessar rendering — sharp, contrasty, and beautifully vintage.
Condition
Very good vintage condition. Shutter fires across all speeds (1s to 1/400s) including B. Viewing lens is clear; focusing screen bright. Tessar optics good with just minor haze / fungus on the taking lens. Minor cosmetic wear to body consistent with age. Film advance and focus mechanisms operate smoothly. A well-preserved example of this rare model.
